September is one of my favourite months in Brisbane. The weather's clear without being chilly, and the sun's finally rising at a normal hour for those of us who aren't natural early risers. It's the perfect window for sunrise hikes around the Glass House Mountains and Scenic Rim without having to drag yourself out of bed in the dark.

Day trip to Wynnum

Wynnum makes for a lovely little escape for the day. Walk the esplanade, grab a coffee, order some fish and chips.

If you're visiting on a Saturday, time it with the Jan Powers Manly Farmers Market - a great stop to fold into your esplanade stroll, and dog friendly too. Grab a coffee and pick up a few treats for the pantry while you're there.

We went for a run along the water's edge, making a stop at the market feel a little more earned.

to Cairns + The Great Barrier Reef

September is a great time to head north for warm (but not scorching) weather ahead of summer. Whether you're after a week-long escape or a quick weekend trip, there's plenty to fill the days.

I personally loved a 2 day live-aboard snorkelling trip. Why? Because everything's taken care of, the days feel so much longer, and you get far more chances to get in the water than a single day trip allows.
